PREPARING TO FILM

Actors: We haven't concretely decided on an actor to play the main role, but we have decided that the role is going to be filled by a female. While we are constructing a narrative within the film noir genre, we aren't as eager to play into some of the more problematic tropes associated with the genre, like casual misogyny and classism, so we're approaching from a different angle and we definitely want the main character, typically a jaded, cynical man to be played by a woman.

Costumes: We're going for a private eye, Carmen Sandiego but less flashy look for the main character, incorporating a trench coat or similar garment and some kind of fedora to complete the look.

Props: The private eye's desk, associated miscellanea, and whatever we decide to incorporate in her car during the driving scenes will have to be accounted for during filming to make sure that there aren't any continuity errors.

Locations: We're going to filming in the downtown Naples area, in the somewhat more industrialized area between 5th and 9th Streets in order to lend the appearance of a bigger city. Although there aren't very many skycrapers of any sort nearby, we can definitely create the appearance of an industrial park in a large urban center.

Dates and Times: We're all very busy, but thankfully all of the members of our group are in the same clubs so we'll be able to sync up our schedules pretty easily. We'll likely be meeting one or two weekday afternoons a week to plan and then conduct filming on weekend afternoons and nights.

Scripts: Since we only have one main character, scripting won't be an issue. She'll only have one or two actual lines, with the rest being delivered via voice-over to create the atmosphere of a classic noir film, and we're currently writing this monologue.

Film Equipment: Most of the members of our group own newer DSLRs, and we are planning on borrowing a tripod and a gimbal from the school's supplies to make sure our footage is high-quality. Besides that, we have access to editing software through the school and I personally own professional color grading software that we can use.
